Peer-to-peer commerce mobile app from Nova Scotia creates Cape Breton Flood Relief network
Curbza, a peer-to-peer commerce mobile app based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, has created a network for those who have lost their belongings in the recent mass flooding in Cape Breton. People who wish to offer donations to victims of the flooding can post donations on the network, and those in need can accept donations via Curbza's messaging system.
- Curbza, a peer-to-peer commerce mobile app based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, has launched a Cape Breton Flood Relief network. The network has been created to help residents of Cape Breton who have had their belongings destroyed during the heavy rain and winds experienced in Nova Scotia on Monday.
According to CBC Canada, upwards of 10,000 residents remain without power in the municipality.
"The damage caused has left many people feeling helpless," says CEO Scott Theriault. "Although the damage will be a huge financial burden on many residents, there's also little things that have been lost. Posting to the network is a great way to showcase what you have to donate and allow people to view the items and accept what they need."
Users can post items to the Cape Breton Flood Relief network in a few easy clicks, and can be contacted through the app's messaging system instead of sharing personal information.
"This is one of the main reasons we created the app, we want users to be able to post items in a custom network created for a specific reason," says Elizabeth O'Hanley, Curbza's Marketing Director. "You can post items with a purpose. If you have things around the house you consider clutter or extras, consider posting them to the network. People have lost the little things you wouldn't even think of during this flood."
Curbza has been available for download since May 2016 when the app was soft launched during the Fort McMurray wildfire.
"We launched the app four months early when the Fort McMurray wildfire took place," Theriault says. "We realized people needed household items, clothes and more. This gave people looking to donate items a way to put the goods directly in the hands of those in need. We were ready for download and knew it was a good time to offer the platform."
Users can reach the Cape Breton Flood Relief network by download the app for free on the App Store or Google Play. Upon opening the app, users can click "My Networks" and search for "Cape Breton Flood Relief" to join and post to the network.

The networks allow individuals to create their own groups to buy from and sell to, ensuring security and a sense of community within the platform. Curbza is available for free download through the App Store and Google Play.
