From LocalXPress.ca:
The plan to spray hundreds of hectares of woodland in Colchester and Halifax counties is on hold, at least temporarily.
“No approval has been given to Northern Pulp to spray,” Environment Department spokeswoman Krista Higdon said Tuesday of the Pictou County mill’s application to spray 1,314 hectares of woodland at 27 sites with VisionMax, which contains the compound glyphosate as its active herbicidal ingredient.
“Applications are still being reviewed,” Higdon said, despite the company’s request to start its aerial spray program Thursday.
Three Colchester County mayors and MLA Lenore Zann met with Minister Margaret Miller and Environment Department staff on Tuesday to discuss the proposed spray program and the dangers that it could pose.
...Zann, the NDP member for Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River, says she already knows enough about the compound glyphosate to say that the company should not be granted the go-ahead to spray.
