Gardens began on Common land by the Nova Scotia Horticultural Society in 1836.

The Story of Public Gardens

Find out about the history of the Halifax Public Gardens, recongnized as a National Historic Site in 1984. The Gardens house a public collection of garden artefacts such as statues, a bandstand and fountains, which are representative of the Victorian era.



Floral Bed Display Program

The Halifax Public Gardens and Leighton Dillman Park (Dartmouth Common) support charitable organizations in the region to promote upcoming events and milestones. Limited space is available in floral beds within both Gardens.



Free Tours of the Public Gardens

The free, weekly horticultural & historical Garden tours hosted by the Friends of the Public Gardens  have finished for the season. An enormous thanks to all who participated - especially those who volunteered their time as tour leaders.
