Nova Scotia Film & Television Production Incentive Fund

Make your next film in Nova Scotia.
To be eligible for the Fund, you must have a permanent establishment in the province and be engaged primarily in the creation of film/video productions for public viewing.
The Fund is available for projects with a Nova Scotia spend of at least $25,000 (before HST). The maximum funding available to any project is $4 million.
.Eligibility & Funding Levels
There are two categories based on percentage of ownership. Please review theGuidelines for eligibility and incentives before submitting your application.
Stream I: Indigenous/Co-Production:
- Between 50 - 100 percent Nova Scotian ownership and control of production.
- A minimum of 8 Nova Scotians must be employed in Head of Department positions or acceptable combination (see Guidelines).
- Receive a base amount of 26% of all eligible Nova Scotia costs.
- For shoots where greater than 51% of the principal photography is outside the boundaries of Halifax Regional Municipality, you will receive 2% additional funding.
- For shoots of more than 30 days, you will receive 1% additional funding.
Stream II: Foreign/Service Productions:
- 50% or less Nova Scotian ownership or control of production.
- A minimum of 4 Nova Scotians must be employed in Head of Department positions or acceptable combination (see Guidelines).
- Receive a base amount of 25% of all eligible Nova Scotia Costs.
- For shoots where greater than 51% of the principal photography is outside the boundaries of Halifax Regional Municipality, you can receive 2% additional funding.
- For shoots of more than 30 days, you will receive 1% additional funding.
For both streams, you can receive up to 3% additional funding if your production meets the criteria for the Nova Scotia Content Incentive. Please see the Guidelines for criteria.
How to Apply:
The application and all submission materials must be received prior to commencement of principal photography.
- Download the Guidelines, Application Submission Checklist, and Eligible Nova Scotia Costs Worksheetfor reference during the application process.
- When you apply online you will be taken from the NSBI website to Nova Scotia's online service for business (a new window will open).
- Log in to your existing account or sign up and create an account.
- The form will appear in the “Top Tasks” list on the home page once you login. You can also search for the form called, "Nova Scotia Film & Television Production Incentive Fund" in the Licenses, Permits and Applications section.
- Complete the form online, upload all submission materials, and pay the non-refundable application charge of $287.50 (including HST) (see Guidelines for Application Fee details).
- During the application process, you can save and continue your application at a later date.
- You will receive a confirmation email upon submission of the online application form. Incomplete submissions will be returned.
