The body of a 72-year-old Nova Scotian was found Monday on the shore of a Maine town after the sailboat he was on ran aground.

In a news release from the state's Department of Marine Resources, it said the man was sailing with a couple from New Hampshire.

The couple called 911 around 3 a.m. ET Monday to report they were stranded at the southern end of Isle au Haut after their 12-metre sailboat began to break apart on the rocks. The sparsely populated island is southwest of Bar Harbor, Maine.
