Tanya Hansen Pratt's mother was killed by an impaired driver in 1999 while out for a morning walk. 

In an interview from her home in Winnipeg, Hansen Pratt, who is the the national president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, said she urges people in Halifax to take advantage of free bus and ferry rides after 6 p.m. every Saturday until the end of the month. 

"I have to deal with that pain every single day," she said. "I don't want other people to be the cause of that for someone else's family."
