Nova Scotia's police watchdog says the man with a weapon who was the subject of an emergency alert Wednesday on the province's South Shore died after he was shot by an RCMP officer.

The shooting happened on Thursday morning in Chelsea, N.S., about 20 kilometres west of Bridgewater. RCMP were responding to reports of a man with a gun.
