Nova Scotia RCMP are advising the public to steer clear of a new phishing scam being carried out via text message.

In a release Friday, police said they've learned that people have been receiving unsolicited text messages from scammers impersonating the Mounties.

The messages say that the RCMP have been unable to deliver court documents and ask recipients to follow a link to a website to reschedule their delivery to "avoid missing your court date."
