Council approves additional funding for Seniors Snow Removal Program

Halifax Regional Council is putting an additional $200,000 toward supporting the YMCA in the administration of their Snow Removal Program for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities. This extra funding opens up approximately 230 more spaces for a total of over 600 eligible properties.

Who Qualifies?

The snow removal program is available to seniors (65 years of age or older) and persons with disabilities in the Halifax region who also meet the criteria below. The program applies to residential properties only - commercial properties are ineligible.

• The program is NOT available to landlords.
• You must reside in a single dwelling home that you own or rent.
• The total gross household income of all people living on the premises must not exceed $32,000.

How it Works:

The program offers assistance to clear snow from steps and walkways, including:

• Front and back steps
• Walkways
• Ramps
• Access to fuel tanks

The 2016/17 Program is Now Open

YMCA Senior Snow Removal operates on a first-come, first-served basis.When it reaches maximum capacity, the program will come to a close and individuals will be placed on a wait list. Please note that the YMCA only considers applications which include proper documentation.
